Beyond the routine: Stewardship and curating the Living Garden
A garden is a dynamic, living entity—a conversation between the architecture of the home and the rhythm of the seasons. At Le Jardin Contemporain, I distinguish between simply “keeping” a garden and actively managing one.
True garden Management is not a series of repetitive chores; it is the skilled stewardship of a living landscape. While many view gardening as a battle against nature—endless weeding and stagnant “tidiness”—my approach is rooted in stewardship. This is the art of guiding a garden’s evolution over months, years, and decades.
A garden managed by Le Jardin Contemporain is never in stasis; it is constantly being refined. My work moves away from the “pointless weeding” of bare soil and toward the development of resilient and self-sustaining plant communities. My role is to act as the director of your garden’s journey—knowing when to intervene, when to let a species colonize, and how to balance the architectural “bones” of the site with the organic movement of the planting.
The Annual Development Budget
I work with a limited number of clients under a dedicated management agreement. This isn’t a standard service contract; it is a commitment to the long-term stewardship of your outdoor space. At the outset of our partnership, we establish a management roadmap that includes a pre-allocated annual budget for incremental improvements. This commitment ensures that:
The Garden Progresses: we are never just “holding the line” against weeds. We are actively moving the garden forward—enhancing the botanical palette, refining the structural “bones,” and future-proofing the landscape.
Expertise is Guaranteed: You have the consistent, professional oversight of a specialist who understands the unique ecology of the Poitou Charentes landscape.
Transparency is Absolute: By agreeing to a dedicated development budget at the start, every improvement is planned, professional, purposeful and clear upfront.
My focus is entirely on this high-level stewardship. As such, I do not provide routine “one-off” management, or garden clearances. I seek partners who are as committed to the beauty and maturity of their garden as I am.
